Replacing the Discontinued Ford F65Z-17004-AA Grommet

I have a 2000 F-150. Recently, while I was accessing the spare tire, the grommet that protects the bumper from the spare tire winch tool broke. This little grommet seems unimportant, but it does have one legitimate function: it protects the chrome on the bumper from the steel tire winch tool. Without it, the chrome could easily chip on the edges of the tire winch access hole, which would eventually spread to the rest of the bumper.

Turns out this grommet is Ford part number F65Z-17004-AA, which is discontinued. Go figure - the truck is 26 years old. However, I still didn’t want to chip my bumper, so I sourced a few potential replacements from Digi-Key. It turns out that Essentra part number 22MP10913 makes a great replacement for the elusive F65Z-17004-AA! It’s black instead of silver, but I actually think that looks better. The photo below shows this new replacement installed on my bumper.
